Recipe – Vegan Low Fat Sausage ‘Rolls’ Using Heck Vegan Chipolatas

In a bid to mix up my meals and eat less meat, I thought I would experiment with the new Heck vegan chipolatas. Heck have released two new vegan options, inspired by two of their most popular meaty sausages – chicken Italia and pork & apple.

Both options are low in fat and high in fibre, which is a massive bonus. The addition of apple in the meat free with apple adds a lovely richness that I often find vegan food lacking. The Italia option include mozzarella style cheese, basil and garlic to amp up the Italian feel and give more flavour. They cook really well, just the same as regular sausages, and keep their shape whilst cooking. Because of this, I thought I would see if I could create a low fat version of my favourite picnic food, sausage rolls. They turned out pretty well so here is the recipe, and totally vegan!

Ingredients – Serves 5

10 Heck vegan Italia sausages
3 WW wraps (other wraps will work, I just know these ones are vegan)
50g vegan cheese, grated
Plant based milk for brushing. I used coconut milk as I like the flavour it adds

Method

Preheat your oven to 180 degrees.

Spray a baking tray with oil and cook the sausages for 15 minutes, or until cooked through.

Take a WW wrap and lightly brush with coconut milk. Cut the wrap in half.

Place a sausage at one end and roll up until the sausage is completely wrapped. Cut the wrap and brush more coconut on the end to seal.

Keep rolling up until all your sausages are wrapped and place on a baking tray.

Top with grated cheese and pop in the oven for 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the wraps browned.

You can either cut into bite sized pieces for a picnic or enjoy as a snack, whole. You can guess how I ate them!
