German Doner Kebab Arrives In Stockport

German Doner Kebab Arrives In Stockport

I think a lot of restaurants have managed to nail the take out packaging, but German Doner Kebab have really executed this to a fine art. The kebabs themselves are well wrapped in cardboard and then paper to ensure they keep their shape, but don’t go soggy in the process.

As an appetiser I grabbed some Doner Nachos, which are Doritos layered with doner meat, salsa, jalapeños and cheese sauce. All the meat used by German Doner Kebab is imported from Germany and is lean, making sure it isn’t greasy to add loads of excess oil into your dishes.

The nachos are well layered with the different toppings without the nachos going soggy, which when being delivered is no mean feat.

I also tried the Doner Quesadillas, which were my favourite thing on the menu. A thin layer of doner, jalapeños and cheese is sandwiched in a thin wrap making the bread extra toasted yet blends everything together well. It was my favourite thing on the menu and something I will order again and again.

Onto the mains and I tried the Original Doner Kebab and the Wrap version.

The Original arrives on thicker bread and is more like a sandwich. Your choice of doner meats and salad is wrapped in a way that you can hold it without all the fillings falling out. It is still a decent mouthful though and I loved the blend of chicken and beef mix of meats with lettuce and red cabbage for salad. The toasted sesame bread is really flavourful and, for a none kebab lover, I was really impressed by the flavours.

For me, the wrap is more like the type of kebab we are accustomed to in the UK, with a thinner wrap of bread. As with the Original, it is easier to eat due to the way it is wrapped, but I found it a bit greasier due to the bread being thinner.

Considering I didn’t like kebabs before I went to Berlin a few years ago, I was really excited to see what German Doner Kebab brought to Stockport and I wasn’t disappointed. The Original Kebab and the Nachos will definitely be on my future orders and I can’t wait to dine in, when we are allowed, to try the rest of the menu.
