Cruising is my new favourite way of travelling. There is no other way to see so many places on one trip in such style as on board a floating hotel. I have been on a few cruises already but I am looking forward to planning some trips further afield in the very near future. I wasn’t aware you could cruise to so many places so I wanted to share some of my favourites with you.
Dubrovnik
The sail into Dubrovnik between the islands is absolutely beautiful and the port is right next to the walled city. Take your time to wander the walls which are a two kilometre walk then take in the city itself with its medieval buildings and limestone floors. When you have done your 10,000 steps take a break in one of the little cafes that line the side streets and indulge in local delicacies such as octopus and black risotto.
Venice
The sail into Venice meanders around the city meaning you get to see most of the majesticly ornate buildings from the water. Once docked the city is your oyster and you obviously need to see the main sites like Doges Palace and Saint Marks Basilica. I would also recommend wandering the streets, get lost in the canals, the side streets and the pretty boutiques to experience the true Venice. It honestly is the most romantic place I have ever been.
New York
Waking up sailing past Lady Liberty is a sight that I simply need to see in my lifetime. New York, the city that never sleeps, is one of my absolute favourite cities in the world. She welcomes you with open arms to a concrete playground of culture, history, art and leisure. Take a proper view of the city up the top of the Rockefeller Centre then take a stroll around Central Park to marvel at the pretty Bow Bridge and Belvedere Castle. Hit the shops and spend some time admiring the window displays of Saks and Macy’s. I promise you haven’t seen anything like it anywhere else.
Abu Dhabi
A little further afield you will find the capital of the United Arab Emirates with its towering buildings, ornate mosques and huge shopping malls. Chill out and soak in the sun on one of the white sandy beaches or enjoy watersports at the Eastern Mangrove Lagoon National Park.
Livorno
The port city of Livorno is ideally situated to take in two of Italy’s most popular sights – Pisa and Florence. The leaning tower of Pisa is certainly a landmark that was high on my bucket list as was that perfect photograph that looks like I am holding up the building!
Florence is simply beautiful – grab a gelato and take a tour to see the Ponte Vecchio, the Basilica Di Santa Maria Del Fiore and Michelangelo’s David. All in a day from the ship’s port.
