Happy Belly Soft Yolk Scotch Egg – Review

Happy Belly Soft Yolk Scotch Egg – Review

Snacking really is the name of the game at the moment. I am a huge fan of the smorgasbord, a delectable mix of meats, cheeses and bread to pick at rather than preparing a full meal. They are also super quick to prepare, ready for a picnic in the park with friends or to enjoy when up in the hills on an Autumn walk with the dog. Happy Belly have taken the humble scotch egg to the next level and they are perfect for that picnic.

Made locally in Bolton, Happy Belly make their own sausage meat and seasonings to create scotch eggs with a difference. There are eight varieties to choose from, each with an oozy soft boiled egg at the centre. Gone are the generically bland sausage meat around a dry hard boiled egg, Happy Belly have created eight different treats that take both local and international flavours and make them portable to enjoy on the go.

The All Day Breakfast, warmed in the oven is my favourite of the collection. You can eat them cold and they are really good, but warmed in the oven gives the crumb coating a little extra crunch and the egg stays soft, which was a pleasant surprise! The smoked bacon pieces and tomato flakes in the sausage meat give it that extra oomph and it is literally a full English that you can eat on the move.

Not to be left out, there is also a choice for vegetarians with either the Sweet Potato & Feta or Sweet Potato, Caramelised Onions & Goats Cheese. I thought They would be a bit bland without the sausage but the coating is well seasoned and the addition of feta and goats cheese gives a lovely flavour. I did not miss the meat and would definitely buy them alongside their meaty friends in the shop.

The perfect mess free snack that is not only great to pop in your picnic, they also make the perfect elevenses and heating up brings the flavours to a new level. You really need to give them a go.
