When it comes to food prep, I am usually seriously lazy. Living on my own and eating out a lot can mean a lot of waste so I tend to buy a lot of pre prepared fruit and vegetables to minimise that waste where I can. Obviously things have changed in the last week and I am no longer eating out, which is a frustration for me. Living on my own, my social life is really important to me but not as important as the people who supply that service to me. The restaurant staff, their suppliers, this affects everyone so much more than some people realise. A frustration to me is a life changing decision to others and my heart breaks when I think about how this will continue to impact the lives of those in the hospitality industry.
One of those companies affected is Noones Fresh. Noones are a family run fresh produce provider who usually provide a lot of the fruit and vegetables you eat when dining out in the Greater Manchester area. They are currently doing fruit and vegetable boxes for the public and they are a bargain.
For £25 they will prepare you a box (there was so much stuff in mine that it was in 2 crates) that you can collect from their warehouse in Bredbury, Stockport, or if you live in postcodes SK1-SK6 and FY1-FY4 they will deliver for free. Where multiple orders are placed outside of these postcodes, they may be able to deliver so it is worth giving them a ring to see what they can arrange for you.
Contents are likely to vary dependant on demand and availability but you will get a great mix of fruit, vegetables and salad items. My box included carrots, broccoli, onions, 2 punnets of cherry tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, mushrooms, lettuce, cucumber, massive potatoes, bananas, oranges, grapes, a pineapple and lots of apples. Household items included were a dozen eggs, a packet of linguine, 2 litres of milk, fresh butter and a loaf of bread.
I’m not sure I could have bought all this for less than £25 at my local supermarket and buying from Noones means you are supporting a local business until they can supply the restaurant trade again.
