The Bakewell Tart Shop Delivery Review

The Bakewell Tart Shop Delivery Review

I am partial to a Bakewell tart but, can you believe, I’ve never been to Bakewell? I knew the traditional version was quite a bit different to the supermarket favourite but had no idea in what way. That was, until the fantastic Bakewell Tart Shop started doing deliveries! I ordered one of each so I could compare and share with you.

First off all, my Bakewell Tarts were superbly packed, wrapped in plastic and then sturdily boxed so they slid straight through my letterbox.

As you can see, they’re a fair bit larger than the single serving ones from the popular brand you see at the supermarket. This means you can slice as big a piece as you like and not feel guilty for eating more than one of the single serve size…

The Bakewell Tart Shop version of the iced Bakewell tart is delicious. They’ll ice it to say whatever you like too which, is a lovely touch and makes it the perfect gift for the Bakewell tart lover in your life!

The Bakewell Tart Shop use a recipe that dates back over 100 years! Rumour is that it was born from a mistake. Mrs Greaves, who was the landlady White Horse Inn in Bakewell. She asked her cook to pour a mixture into tart cases and then top with jam, but the cook put the jam in first. The rest, as they say is history.

Taste wise, the iced version is obviously sweeter. The pastry is lovely, short and crisp with a generous helping of frangipane that is not too sweet. There is a thin layer of delicious jam so the majority of the sweetness comes from that thin layer of icing.

The original is simply topped with flaked almonds and I definitely preferred it. I would highly recommend enjoying it warm with a generous serving of vanilla ice cream. It really brings those almond flavours to life and is super comforting of a cold winter’s night.
