When a take out claims to have the best fried chicken in Manchester, you have to try it right? Despite living in Stockport, I was willing to travel to Old Trafford to check out Deens Fried Chicken. Let’s see how they shaped up.
My go to order at a fried chicken place is always the chicken and rice platter. Always. I love bread but a burger just isn’t my first choice, so when the staff at Deens said they recommended their Peri Boneless Platter, I jumped on it. The chicken is never frozen and is marinated for 24 hours to make sure it is as tender and flavoured as possible. It is steamed before being grilled, making it juicy and soft yet still with that delicious chargrilled flavour. A generous portion of chicken is served on a bed of aromatic rice with a fresh chopped salad and a side of Deen’s Famous Chilli Sauce. Usually when I order these type of meals, the salad is the last thing to be thought about. Limp and warm, I don’t know why places bother putting it on the plate as it is usually inedible. That is not the case here and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m not sure what is ‘famous’ about the chilli sauce but it is good! It’s hot but in that warming your mouth way, not hot for hot’s sake.

My friend’s chicken burger looked just as good and I am not ashamed to admit that I stole several of those Peri Fries. The same soft and juicy chicken on a soft bun, what’s not to like?

We also tried their two types of chicken wings. The Spicy Wings have a crunchy spicy coating that is seriously moreish. The BBQ Wings are in a sticky sauce but not photogenic, hence the lack of photo! If you’re local, you will just have to go and order some. There is a touch of heat but it is slight, the sticky sweetness is really the star of the show.
Is Deen’s the best fried chicken in Manchester? Well, I’ve not tried all the fried chicken out there so I couldn’t possibly comment other than to say, it is pretty good. If you’re in Old Trafford or Longsight, I’d definitely recommend you give them a go.
